Taking The Day Off

Sometimes we all need a break so I’m going to take Ferris Bueller’s advice. I’m taking the day off. I’m clocking out and I’m going to just do nothing and be proud of it. Well, kind of, but not really.

Here’s What I Mean

They say the best never rest, but I’m not sure I believe that.  Instead, I believe the best work like the badasses they are and then stop to reflect and refuel.

They take some time to reflect on where they’ve been and what they’ve accomplished.  They even celebrate those little victories along the way.  They identify the missteps in their plan and make adjustments for the future. They refuel by studying and reading.  They listen to music.  They take a deep breath and are mindful and grateful. It truly is a pause for the cause (the cause being their career).

Bottom line: No one can keep running twenty four seven – three sixty five.

Here’s What I Do

Every so often I disconnect from my smartphone and laptop for part of a day.  I read and listen to music (not at the same time). I discover new ideas which I can relate to projects in which I’m involved. I take the time to think about what really matters to me.

I take a breather. I sit outside and chill.

Then I’m ready to resume kicking it

Here’s What I Say

Give it a try. Nothing is more important to you than your career so respect it. Take care of it. And most of all, give it a break! Cut yourself a little slack and celebrate the good things.

I’m taking the day off and you should, too!

#TakeTheTwenty
